Tony Ramos: Head Coach
Originally from Eagle Pass, Coach Tony Ramos grew up having a passion for all sports. In 1997, he started his collegiate tennis career at The University of the Incarnate Word, where he was top 20 in the Midwest in doubles, won 2 Heartland Conference Championships, a Regional Championship and advanced to Nationals his senior year. In 2002, Coach Ramos graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education and continued a 4-year playing career on the ITF Pro Circuit. In 2003, he was hired as a Tennis Professional at The Dominion Country Club where he developed some of the top juniors in the state of Texas for 11 years.
In 2014, Coach Ramos became the new head tennis coach for the East Central High School Tennis Team and took the team to 3 consecutive Area and Regional Playoffs, and district championship in 2017, a first in school history. In 2016, he received the Ike Groce Vision Award from the Texas Tennis Coaches Association (TTCA) for the free community outreach programs he developed for the East Central ISD community and for the success of his tennis program. Last year, Coach Ramos raised over $47,000 in capital funds that were used to revitalize the tennis centers at Legacy and Heritage Middle School. This year, he was awarded the Charlie McCleary Community Service Award from The United States Professional Tennis Association for his year-round program development. Coach Ramos just recently graduated from Sul Ross State University with a Masters of Science in Health and Human Performance and looks forward to a long-lasting career at ECISD. In May of this year, Coach Ramos’ tennis program was featured in the San Antonio-Express News.
