The Hornets baseball team competed at the Mira’s Classic Tournament this past weekend and went 3-2 . The tournament started Thursday with the Hornets jumping out to an early 5-1 lead against Elgin but gave up 6 unanswered runs which lead to a 7-6 loss. Logan Taylor started the scoring for the Hornets by stealing home in the first inning to give the Hornets an early 1-0 lead. The Hornets were able to rack up eight hits throughout the game. Logan Taylor, Steven Barrera, and Nathan Galan all had multiple hits for East Central Hornets.
The Hornets faced Carroll for their second game and came out victorious 14-0. Maddox Miesse led the Hornets at the plate driving in four runs. He went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a grand slam in the fourth. Matthew Luna led things off on the pitcher’s mound for the Hornets. He surrendered zero runs on two hits over three innings, striking out eight and walking one.
Friday started with a blow out win against Miller 18-0. Steven Barrera led things off on the hill for the Hornets. He lasted three innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out four and walking zero. The Hornets tallied 11 hits in the game. Taylor, Sierra, Nathan Galan, and Miesse all collected multiple hits for the Hornets. The Hornets were able to steal 11 bases during the game as three players stole more than one.
The Hornets fell behind in their second game of the day to Bishop 3-0 in the first inning. Bishop was able to push across two more runs to make it a 5-0 game. The Hornets fought and battled back scoring 2 runs in the 4th inning to make it a 3 run game. Logan Taylor kept the Hornets in the game on the mound pitching a complete game throwing 106 pitches for the game. The Hornets scored one more run in the 5th inning to make it a 2 score game. The Hornets came up in the bottom of the 6th and made the game interesting. The Hornets scored another run making it a 5-4 ball game and had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs when Barrera hit a line drive to left field but right at the left fielder to end the game. The Hornets finished 2-2 in pool play for Thursday and Friday.
The Hornets played Cedar Park on Saturday morning. The Hornets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a shot off Taylor’s bat going over the left field fence. This was Taylor’s second homerun for the tournament. Matthew Luna led things off on the mound for the Hornets. He lasted two innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out three and walking zero.The Hornets totaled eight hits in the game. Taylor and Maddox Miesse each managed multiple hits for East Central Hornets Varsity. Taylor led East Central with three hits in three at bats. The Hornets go into spring break preparing for their last tournament and district.
