Varsity Softball · Lady Hornet Softball Dominates at the EC/Judson Tournament

Your Lady Hornet Varsity softball team went undefeated this weekend at the EC/Judson tournament, bringing the championship home.
On Thursday, an impressive dual pitching performance from Holly Ayala and Celeste Gonzales lead to a no hitter for EC against Antonian Prep, defeating them 13-0. Ayala was credited with the victory for Lady Hornets. She allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, walking zero. Gonzales threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Lady Hornets socked two home runs on the day. Kayla Gonzales and Veronica Garcia both went yard in the third inning contributing ten total hits for the Lady Hornets.  Garcia went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Lady Hornets in hits. Lady Hornets was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.
The Lady Hornets charged on Friday with impressive wins against Harlan (13-0) and South San (6-0). EC defeated Harlan in a meager 3 innings, driven forth by 6 home runs from the following players: MacKenzie Dugi, Veronica Garcia, Marisol Vargas, Jordyn Lopez, Erin Villela, and Kayla Gonzales. Celeste Gonzales captured the win with a 2 strikeout no hitter.
EC brought that same energy to their later game where Holly Ayala was brilliant in the circle as she threw a no-hitter to lead Lady Hornets past South San Antonio 6-0. She allowed zero hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out one and walking zero. Lady Hornets tallied three home runs on the day. Kayla Gonzales had a homer in the fifth inning, Veronica Garcia went yard in the first inning, and Mikaila Vidal had a dinger in the fifth inning.
East Central bulldozed into Saturday’s bracket play, taking the semifinal game against Judson with a score of 6-3. The Lady Hornets came back from falling behind early. In the third, Marisol Vargas doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs and Jordyn Lopez’s sac fly scored one run for Lady Hornets. MacKenzie Dugi led Lady Hornets with two hits in two at bats. Holly Ayala took the win for Lady Hornets. She lasted five innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out five.
The Lady Hornets finished out their incredible campaign with a victorious rematch against South San in the championship game. In dominating fashion, EC won 13-2 where Veronica Garcia picked up four hits over four at bats. Garcia singled in the first, doubled in the second, doubled in the third, and homered in the seventh. Lady Hornets launched two home runs on the day. Garcia had a long ball in the seventh inning. Vidal went deep in the third inning. Lady Hornets had 16 hits in the game. Garcia, Dugi, Bacon, and Vidal all managed multiple hits for Lady Hornets. Garcia led Lady Hornets in hits. Lady Hornets was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Ayala earned the victory in the circle for Lady Hornets. She lasted six innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out two and walking zero. Celeste Gonzales threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
