The high powered New Braunfels offense came into Friday night averaging almost 38 points per game in the 2019 campaign and were on pace at halftime, leading 20-17. But halftime adjustments and a strong defensive effort lead to a second half shut out, punctuated late in the 4th quarter by a Jeremiah Richardson sack that ensured a 24-20 Hornet victory. The junior linebacker tallied a 4 tackles, including 3 for loss and 2 sacks. Senior safety Walter Johnson led the Hornets with 6 total tackles, while senior linebacker Michael Brown contributed 5. On the defensive line senior Justin Gutierrez had 4, 2 of which were for losses.
Offensively, the Hornets were paced again by the tandem of sophomore quarterback Caden Bosanko and senior running back Deangelo Rosemond. Bosanko threw for 131 yards on 7 of 12 passing attempts. Two of the completions went for touchdowns, one to senior receiver Charles Olgesby and one to sophomore receiver Chris Taylor. Rosemond led the charge on the ground rushing for 187 yards on 28 attempts with one touchdown, bringing his season total to 14.
The victory brings the Hornets record to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in district. The Hornets sit tied for first in district 26-6A heading into the bye week but have plenty of work ahead of them as they open the second half of the season at Smithson Valley on October 11th.
