Varsity Football · Hornets Start Year Strong By Rolling Ray

Sr Wr Charles Oglesby

The long wait for football season ended Friday evening as the Hornets took the field against the Texans of Corpus Christi Ray.  The Hornets opened the action by receiving the opening kick off and marching down the field on a 6 play, 65 yard drive that culminated in a 7 yard touchdown run by Deangelo Rosemond. The Hornets never looked back as they took the win 48-10. Sophomore quarterback Caden Bosanko made his varsity debut and lead the Hornets passing game going 7 for 11 with 101 yards and 2 touchdowns.  He also contributed with 58 rushing yards. On the receiving end of  Bosanko’s first career touchdown pass was senior Charles Oglesby who had 5 total catches for 58 yards. The second passing touchdown was the first of what Hornets fans hope to be many scoring connections between the young quarterback and fellow sophomore Chris Taylor.

Sr QB Tristan Pederson

The above mentioned Deangelo Rosemond led the Hornet rushing attack carrying the ball 15 times for 120 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Scoring contributions on the ground also came from Senior quarterback Tristan Pederson and sophomore running back TaDion Lott.

Defensively the Hornets were paced by senior linebacker Mike Brown who registered 9 total tackles, including 2 for losses and 3 QB pressures.  Staying with the theme of young players playing well sophomore DB Treshawn Johnson tallied 4 tackles and a forced fumble while JaCorey Bremby, another sophomore, also had 4 tackles and added a fumble recovery.

It would seem that the future is bright for the Hornets, as many young players made their debuts and performed extremely well.  The mix of senior leadership and young talent bodes well as the Hornets prepare for the rest of their season.

The Hornets return to action on Saturday at 7pm as they take on Roosevelt at NEISD’s Heroes Stadium.

Come Early, Be Loud, and Wear Your Black & Gold. Go HORNETS!
