Boys Varsity Baseball · Baseball Holds Off Austin Bowie In Game One Of Bi-District Series

The first week of May marks the first week of playoff baseball in Texas and East Central drew Austin Bowie in round one. Thursday night the Hornets took on the Bulldogs to kick off their playoff season with game one of the Bi-District Round in San Marcos. Junior Matthew Luna would get the nod from head coach JK Moody in game one. Bowie was first to strike first in the top of the first inning with an RBI single. However, that would be all the offense that Luna would allow from the Bulldogs. Luna and Jeremy Tello combined to hold the Bulldog offense to a minimum. The Hornets offense then went to work and gave Luna the run support he needed. Eight of the nine Hornet starters were able to find themselves in the hit column. The Hornet offense combined for fifteen hits and seven runs with multiple hits coming from six of the nine starters. This included three hits coming from Sophomore Jacob Ovalle and three RBI’s from senior Tyler Vivier. The Hornets would go on to defeat Bowie in game one by a final score of 7-1.

The series continues tonight in San Marcos with first pitch slated for 7pm. Don’t forget to follow us on twitter @SAECHSBaseball for ALL things Hornet baseball! We look forward to seeing everyone out at the ballpark tonight!
